Mitochondrial fusion/fission imbalance in neurons: implication for Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy

In this talk, I will present unpublished data showing how we use drosophila to get new insights into the pathogenesis of a human neuropathy caused by mutations in the fusion factor mitofusin. I will explain how we think pathogenic mitofusins, commonly found in patients, alter mitochondrial dynamics and how this impacts on neuronal functions. Finally I will also present a follow up project in which we explore how neurons use mitochondrial fission and fusion to cope with accumulating mtDNA mutations.
