Undergraduate internships

The MBU welcomes applications from undergraduates wishing to carry out internships in the Unit.  The duration of these visits is usually between two weeks and six months, however, we have occasionally hosted visiting undergraduates for longer periods.

Visiting Student Schemes

The MBU offers placements to Part II and Part III Biochemistry students at the University of Cambridge, particularly those who are considering applying for PhD places in the future.

The MRC's Summer Studentship Scheme offers sponsored short-term (summer) internships, with stipends ranging from £15,170 to £16,119 per annum pro rata.  The Scheme is open to:

  • UK and EU nationals
  • Overseas students who are in full-time education at a UK university and have a valid student visa
  • Overseas students from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Monaco, who have a Tier 5 Mobility Scheme visa. see: www.gov.uk/tier-5-youth-mobility and have been offered a summer studentship

This is an EU exchange programme - if you are interested, please contact the Erasmus Coordinator at your home institution.  The Coordinator is required to submit nominations to the University, by given deadlines, before you can apply.  Further details can be found here: www.ist.admin.cam.ac.uk/erasmus-plus/incoming-students

The Amgen Scholars Programme is open to undergraduate students who are enrolled in colleges or universities in Europe and who have not entered the final year of their bachelor's or first degree (or its equivalent) before participating in the programme. In 2015, Amgen Scholars will be required to be resident in Cambridge from 12 July until 9 September and will receive a stipend of £1,120 to cover llving costs.  Further details can be found here: www3.bio.cam.ac.uk/amgenscholars/index.html

The MBU welcomes internship applications from undergraduate students who have secured their own funding.

The MBU runs occasional work experience programmes for secondary school (post-16) STEM students. Please send enquiries to Penny Peck (see above).
