Directorship of the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit

After fifteen years as Director of this Unit, John Walker has stepped down from this role. Known originally as the MRC Dunn Human Nutrition Unit, it was renamed the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit in 2009. John will continue to pursue his research interests at the MBU.

John is succeeded by Professor Massimo Zeviani from the Besta Institute in Milan, Italy, a clinical researcher who is known widely for his work on mitochondrial diseases. Professor Zeviani will build up a research group in the Unit to study the genetic characterisation of mitochondrial disorders, in pursuit of the development of therapies for mitochondrial diseases. His work will complement the Unit's existing research programmes to further enhance both the Unit's internal and external collaborations.
