On Thursday, 7 December 2017 two members of the MRC MBU visited the St Ivo Science Conference, where students presented recent scientific research on topics that they had chosen themselves.
The event emulated a scientific conference.
Just as would be required at such an event, the students displayed their posters on poster boards and stood beside them to answer any questions posed by viewers. Two students gave an excellent joint presentation to the guests (parents, judges, peers and tutors).
The judges included school governors, and representatives from industry and academia. Martin King and Penny Peck represented the MBU - Martin in his capacity as a postdoctoral scientist and Penny in her role of public engagement management. Martin and Penny acted as judges of the poster competition, from both the scientific and communications aspects. Martin gave a presentation on, "Mitochondria and the energy of life: an introduction to the MRC MBU".
There were 35 excellent posters from students in Years 12 and 13, which were very difficult to judge!
We congratulate the students and their tutors on this success, their passion for their chosen fields and their ability to explain the content of their posters with confidence. Well done!
